Dear Members of the District 34 School Community,

We want to share our joy and excitement to welcome all of your children and our staff to our schools. As your new interim superintendents, we are eager to meet the students, build critical relationships with our parent community and  continue supporting our teachers who so passionately dedicate themselves to this wonderful district.

The summer was full of many celebrations, setting the foundation
for an exciting school year ahead for this district. We welcomed new principals at Springman and Hoffman, hired two interim Student Services Directors and saw the completion of construction at four school buildings that received needed renovations.

Looking forward, teachers have been preparing for the expansion of our science curriculum to include the new units of instruction based on the performance expectations outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards. The District 34 Science Committee has worked hard to design units and lessons, and we cannot wait to engage our students in hands-on learning experiences that involve scientific inquiry and engineering design.

We also will continue on our Social Emotional Learning journey.  Throughout our district, a large portion of our teachers have signed up to teach Second Steps, a curriculum that helps students understand and manage their emotions, control their reactions, be aware of others' feelings, and have the skills to problem-solve and make responsible decisions.

This school year will be a first for our REACH program. The REACH Early Childhood Program provides preschool education experiences to children ages three to five who live within Glenview School District 34.  The program is an expansion of the existing District 34 Early Childhood and PreK programs and will include a mix of blended classes (including bilingual Spanish-English classes) and self-contained special education classes.

Another first for our district is the start of NSSED's SAIL program, which serves students who have autism. This will be the first year of the district's middle school program, which means Glenview students with autism will be able to attend middle school in their own community.

Our theme for this year is "Every Child Deserves a Champion." As your school district leaders, we feel so fortunate to be the champion to all of your children every day. They are truly at the center of our work and decision-making, and our continued inspiration.

Sincerely,
District 34 Interim Superintendents
