Board Selects Firm For Superintendent Search

Choosing an educational leader for Glenview School District 34 is one of the biggest decisions that our Board of Education will make and will have an impact on our school community for years to come
The Glenview School District 34 Board of Education took the first step in its search for a new long-term superintendent. The Board decided to engage the services of School Exec Connect to conduct a national search for a new superintendent, who would begin July 1, 2017. At meetings July 5 and July 7, the Board listened to presentations from five search firms: BWP & Associates, Illinois Association of School Boards, School Exec Connect, Ray and Associates, Inc., and Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA). Each firm, which had earlier submitted a written proposal, gave a 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes of questions from board members.

A superintendent search is a complex and time-consuming project. It starts with the development of a profile, based on input from the board, District 34 staff, parents and broader community members. Based on the profile developed specifically for Glenview District 34 School Exec Connect will advertise the position, and recruit and screen candidates. Once a slate of candidates is presented to the Board, the firm will continue to manage the logistics and process required to complete the interviews, select and hire a Superintendent, and plan for a smooth and successful transition.

“Choosing an educational leader for Glenview School District 34 is one of the biggest decisions that our Board of Education will make and will have an impact on our school community for years to come,” said Board Vice President Jackie Lutz. “We want to ensure a thorough, deliberative process and one that involves input from all constituencies within our school community.”

The entire process is expected to take 6 months, with a candidate named this coming winter. The new superintendent will begin July 1, 2017. Following the selection of the firm, the Board will negotiate the specific terms of the contract. The search is expected to cost approximately $20,000.
