Board Hires Experienced Leader as New Superintendent

The Glenview District 34 Board of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Dane Delli as the new Superintendent of Schools during a special meeting on January 12.

Dr. Delli will officially begin as superintendent on July 1, 2017. However, over the course of the next several months, he will be working closely with Interim Superintendents Dr. Patricia Wernet and Dr. Griff Powell to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.

Dr. Delli joins the district with a wealth of experience, a true passion for teaching and learning and a proven track record of providing strong leadership, according to Board President Cathe Russe.
Dr. Delli has served as superintendent of Mount Prospect-based River Trails School District 26 since July 2007. He has worked at all levels of education, pre-school through college, for over twenty-five years. His prior experience includes service as a high school teacher, middle school principal, high school principal, assistant superintendent, and university professor.

Dr. Delli earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Educational Leadership from Ohio State University after receiving his M.S. degree in Education from John Carroll University and his B.S. degree in English Education from Bowling Green State University. He maintains an established record of published research in the field of human resource administration and has presented his expertise and research findings at over twenty national and state level conferences.

“Dr. Delli was the clear choice to the Board of Education because of his proven track record of success, strong leadership qualities, effective communication skills and clear understanding of instruction and the qualities of a state-of-the art curriculum,” Russe said. “He also places a strong importance on collaboration and team building in order to effectively work with the Board, administrative team, staff and community.”

“I feel fortunate and excited to serve a district with such passionate, dedicated teachers and an involved and supportive parent community. These are some of the most essential elements to ensure our students continue to grow and flourish. I look forward to the years ahead in Glenview District 34,” said Dr. Delli.

During the meeting, the Board thanked parents and staff for providing their valuable feedback through the focus group sessions and an online survey, both of which were conducted in the fall.

“It was through your input, as well as the work of the confidential committee, that we feel confident in our decision to hire Dr. Delli as the new superintendent. He has all the right qualities and characteristics in order to best meet the needs of our school community,” Russe said.

The district plans to host a reception in the spring to officially welcome Dr. Delli to Glenview District 34.

Dr. Delli resides in Highland Park with his wife, an elementary school teacher, and their son and two daughters.
